Overview

The Duke University Marching Band flute section uses wrist-mounted phone holders to display their music. However, when they cheer during basketball games, they have to take the entire mechanism off and put it back on when they are done.

I created a quick-release buckle that makes it easy for them to detach their phones when it is time to cheer and put them back on when they have to play.

The mechanism was 3D printed and uses metal hardware to interface with the existing phone holder and wrist mount.

Mechanism

The device is a 2-part, 3D printed construction that uses a 1/4-20 bolt to attach to the phone holder. The male end of the buckle can be squeezed to remove it from the female side.

There is minimal wobble, as the tolerances are very snug. The wingnut sits perfectly so that the buckle can slide out and then be lifted to be removed.
