Smith Lab
Satellite Orbit Simulation and Optimization (April '24 - Present)
Overview
Overview
Over the summer and continuing fall of 2024, I am working in the David R. Smith group at Duke to conduct orbital analysis for satellite imaging research.
I investigated minimum time to full ground coverage and satellite positioning for coverage optimization.
Highlights
Highlights
Employed FreeFlyer to analyze coverage area for existing satellite constellations including Starlink and Planet Labs
Modeled proprietary SAR antenna in software and implemented simulations to analyze efficacy
Evaluated simulation quality analytically to minimize computation effort on each simulation - reduced time by 87%
Performed satellite constellation optimization using an Improved Stochastic Ranking Evolution Strategy (ISRES)
